Five hundred (500) Chris Hani District Municipality residents will now get full homeownership to their government subsidised houses when they receive title deeds from Eastern Cape Human Settlements MEC, Siphokazi Lusithi in Who Can Tell under Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality on Friday, 08 May 2026. This is one of the Department’s priorities to ensure that sustainable housing is realised.
Title Deeds Restoration Project was initiated to deal with the current backlog and take the Government housing intervention into its logical conclusion which is the issuing of title deeds. This is all to ensure access to adequate housing and full homeownership, thus security of tenure to the people. The Department together with the local municipality, have undertaken a verification process to ensure the rightful beneficiaries receive their title deeds.
The Department has made a steady progress in ensuring that title deeds are issued to the rightful beneficiaries after beneficiary approval, committing to the principle of “one title deed, one beneficiary”.
